About Dan

Dan Allenby

Dan Allenby is a singer-songwriter based just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. With a sound that’s described as a blend of country, folk and rock, he has written and recorded more than 100 songs and performed over 200 shows up and down the east coast over the past two decades.

His musical course started in his hometown of Williamsburg, Virginia where he and guitarist Tad Howard began writing, recording and performing their songs at parties and open mics. After moving to Washington, DC, Dan and Tad teamed up with drummer Michael Allenby (Dan’s brother) and bassist Jon Melzer to form Crenshaw in 1997. The rock quartet was active for eight years, performing constantly and recording two full length albums (Add The Good, 1997 and The Mack Sessions, 1999) as well as an EP (Three, 2000).

In 2001, Dan recruited Jason Kelly to play drums and brother Michael to play bass on a side-project called the Dan Allenby Trio (DAT). The trio recorded one album (DAT, 2001) and played a handful of shows from Virginia to New York. A few years later, DAT disbanded after Dan decided to take a break from live shows and relocate to the Boston area.

In March 2019, Dan released a new album entitled “Crack the Blinds”. It features Dan (vocals, guitar), Brian Sargent (guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, backing vocal) and Andy Hall (dobro). It was recorded at Aberrant Sound in Wrentham, Massachusetts and produced and engineered by Brian Sargent.
